Miramonte High School: EFO Provides Challenging Opportunities
to Encourage Student Achievement

With the passage of Measure A in March 2005, the Acalanes Union High School District can again fund critical electives at Miramonte, so EFO's focus for this school year is to support important student enrichment programs and services that enhance the academic experience.

Student Academic Programs: $144,500
Thanks to EFO, students at Miramonte can enjoy a variety of special academic programs, including: Academic Decathlon, Students of Excellence, Public Speaking, Mock Trial, Model UN, The Miron Newspaper, the annual Olympic Park Science Trip, Character Education, and the self-directed senior WISE program which allows students to delve deeply into and excel at a variety of academic subjects.  Many of these programs also include opportunities for students to demonstrate their scholastic prowess in a fun, challenging and competitive atmosphere. New for 2005-2006 are EFO-funded programs to improve student achievement in reading comprehension, math and world history, as well as underwriting individualized tutoring in writing for EVERY high school student.

Technology Support and Equipment: $140,000

EFO is underwriting new computers and software for a new video lab, more cameras for digital photography, classroom projectors, and new computers in the computer and foreign language labs.   This equipment will help support the additional classroom sections that can now be offered thanks to the passage of Measure A.  EFO also funds the computer lab assistants.

Individualized attention and counseling are important factors in helping students achieve maximum academic success. EFO continues its support of small group counseling at Miramonte, as well as the valuable services of the Career Counseling Center. EFO also provides for a part-time school clerk to assist with school administration.

Choral and Instrumental Music Support: $30,000
EFO provides funds for a choral assistant, music coaches, a dance coach, plus musical instruments and sheet music.

Academic and Library Support : $15,000
