OUSD’s new Superintendent Dr. Carolyn Seaton starts work today!
Dr. Seaton’s impressive career in education gives her a wide depth of experience and understanding of issues faced by districts similar to ours. She started her career as a teacher in the Highland Park School District (Dallas, Texas) in 1984, where she worked with students from first through eighth grade in a variety of capacities (teacher, science specialist, and GATE specialist). When she moved to Southern California in 1997, she started working for the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, where she first taught English, math, science and history to seventh and eight graders. She was very involved in the planning and development of the brand new Manhattan Beach Middle School, where she served as Assistant Principal for one year and then Principal for three years. She also served as Director of Curriculum for nine years and most recently as Director of Human Resources for almost two years for the MBUSD.
In addition to her well-rounded resume as an educator and administrator, Dr. Seaton has been a very successful student. She earned a Masters of Education from the University of North Texas in 1987, and most recently completed a three-year doctorate program at the University of Southern California. Her thesis focused on transformational technology practices in K-12 schools. She will celebrate her impressive accomplishment at the Hooding Ceremony on May 12.
Dr. Seaton and her husband Dave moved to Lamorinda and are looking forward to exploring the restaurants and hiking trials of the Bay Area. Her son Rick teaches 8th grade history in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he also coaches for a local high school football team.
Welcome Dr. Seaton — We are excited to get to work with you!
EFO also thanks Interim Superintendent Kathy Marshall and the OUSD Board of Trustees for all of your time and effort in making this transition so smooth.
